Abstract. Mesenchymal tumors — are tumors originating from mesenchymal tissue derivatives and having disembriogenetics origin. These tumors are much rarer than epithelial tumors and lack of organ specificity. Common types of mesenchymal tumors of the esophagus and stomach are GIST and leiomyoma. Mezenchymoma is a multi-mesenchymal tumor locating more often in soft tissue of thigh, retroperitoneal fat, mediastinum. Organ mezenchymomas are much rare. The gigantic size of mesenchymal tumors is an absolute indication for surgery. The results of successful surgical treatment of giant GIST with gastro-esophageal localization and giant mezenchymoma of esophagus with long (over 5 years) follow-up period are presented.
Key words: mesenchymal tumor, leiomyoma, mezenchymoma, gastrointestinal stromal tumor, GIST.
