Abstract. The problem of adequate breast reconstruction to the natural or pre-operative level in the surgical treatment of breast cancer and is still very actual nowadays. Though excellent results are reached in restoration of breast contours, shape, volume and symmetry, visible postoperative scar remains the only element that demonstrates performed breast cancer surgery. The stages of breast surgery development, the transition from the classical to the organ-sparing and oncoplastic, skin-sparing and NAC-sparing radical mastectomy are discussed in the review.
